Getting Support for Java Plug-In While Transitioning to Java Web Start

Steven Chan - Thu, 2019-03-28 12:09

We recently provided guidance that we highly recommend all our Oracle E-Business Suite customers to migrate their Oracle E-Business Suite client tiers to use Java Web Start (JWS) without delay.

It's essential to note that as of March 2019, Java Web Start is the only certified version of Java for the Oracle E-Business Suite client tier that also comes under Premier or Extended Support for Java SE.

This raises the question of what support we will provide for Java Plug-In for customers as they transition to Java Web Start. The answer is in two parts:

  • Through to at least September 2020, Oracle plans to continue shipping the components required to launch Java applets on Internet Explorer 11 using Java Plug-in.
  • Oracle E-Business Suite Support will continue to accept service requests against issues found when using the Java Plug-in with EBS until September 2020.

Please note that above support schedule is contingent on Microsoft continuing to support the APIs required by the Java Plug-in with Internet Explorer until the dates specified.

Updated EBS R12 Tools Requirements for IBM AIX on Power Systems

Steven Chan - Tue, 2019-03-19 08:48

Beginning on May 3rd 2019, Oracle E-Business Suite application tier patches for Releases 12.2, 12.1, and 12.0 on IBM AIX on Power Systems will be built with version 12.1 of the IBM XL C/C++ compiler, which includes new runtime and utilities packages. Customers who plan to apply patches built after May 3rd 2019 to their Oracle E-Business Suite environment must first ensure they meet all the new requirements.

This change is needed because IBM is discontinuing support of the previous XL compiler (version 11) that was formerly used for building Oracle E-Business Suite12 patches.

We are announcing this change now to give our customers time to prepare for, and be compliant with, all requirements for patches generated after the May 3rd 2019 date.

We recommend you review the following documentation for all new requirements relating to the IBM AIX on Power Systems platform:

Steven Chan - Fri, 2019-03-15 11:04

Web-based content in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 runs on the Oracle Application Framework (also known as OA Framework, OAF, or FWK) user interface libraries and infrastructure.

We periodically release updates to Oracle Application Framework to fix performance, security, and stability issues.

These updates are provided in cumulative Release Update Packs, and cumulative Bundle Patches that can be applied on top of the Release Update Packs. In this context, cumulative means that the latest RUP or Bundle Patch contains everything released earlier.

The latest OAF update for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.6 is now available:

Where is this update documented?

Instructions for installing this OAF Release Update Pack are in the following My Oracle Support knowledge document:

Who should apply this patch?

All Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.6 users should apply this patch. Future OAF patches for EBS Release 12.2.6 will require this patch as a prerequisite.

What's new in this update?

This bundle patch includes fixes for the following issues:

  • When a mandatory check error is encountered, the physical name of the checkbox is displayed on the error message.
