Dear All

I still have a legacy apps built using Forms 6i and Reports 6i running against Oracle 10g database on a Windows XP client and Windows 2008 server.
It seems working well on Windows 7 client (32-bit only), but I think that it needs to test this apps.

Does anyone have any experience to test such application to Windows 7(32-bit only)?
Please tell me how to test it.

regards.

Well, Forms 6 is not certified with Windows 7 (moreover, 6i was desupported before Windows 7 was released) so even if you make it work, there's no guarantee that it will work correctly all the time. Running an unsupported combination of Oracle software and operating system is not always a good idea (i.e. you may test it and see how it behaves, for your own amusement; but, if you are making money with that application, it is you to decide whether you can afford it to fail or not).

Thank you, Littlefoot.

I know that 6i was not supported on Windows 7.
But we don't have the time and money just to replace it, so if possible, I want to continue to use it.
Could you give me some advice?

Downgrade operating system to XP or - if possible - install one of virtual machines (such as Virtualbox) on Windows 7. Then install XP on virtual machine. Then install your application on virtual machine running under XP and you should have it up and running.

We will complete migration from Windows XP to Windows 7 by the end of the year.
Whether it is physical machines or virtual machines, we will not use Windows XP.
So I want to continue to use it on Windows 7.

I was going to suggest you to contact Oracle Support, but - hey, Forms 6i is is long time desupported and I have no idea what answer you might get from them. You could try, though. Let us know what they said!

If you search the Internet long and deep, you might even find that someone set this parameter to that value and another parameter to another value which made his/her Forms 6i application run well on Windows 7. However, that doesn't mean that - even if you do exactly what they did - your application will work as well.

From my point of view, your options are rather limited. You don't have money to buy a new application so you HAVE TO stay with the old one. Too bad that you (most probably) can't run it on Windows 7. Also, you don't want to stay on Windows XP. Now you tell me what options do you see?

We don't have Oracle Support and software house that developed the app no longer exists.
If a part of the app does not work, I will modify only that part, for example, using C#.
If all of the app does not work, I have no idea.

You don't have to be reminded what a dangerous situation this is.
You are using something in a production environment that you have no support for. This is powder keg waiting to explode and you might be seeing the first rumblings now.
